Surgical vision correction provides freedom from glasses and contact lenses, with all the benefits of naturally excellent vision. But what to do when vision laser surgery is contraindicated?
People with serious problems with myopia, farsightedness or astigmatism, as well as those who for various reasons are contraindicated with laser surgery, are offered a great solution – vision correction with lens implantation. Special optical lenses are used in the process, which can be implanted in the eyes without touching the natural lenses.
The use of implantable lenses is recommended for people with…:
- pronounced myopia (up to -30.0 D);
- strong foresight (up to 20.0 D);
- pronounced astigmatism (up to 6.0 D);
- narrow cornea.
Vision correction with optical lens implantation is essentially similar to correction with contact lenses. The difference is that the contact lenses are manually placed on the cornea, while the optical lenses are implanted in the back or front chamber of the eye, retaining the natural lens of the eye.
Advantages of lens implantation:
- When in the eye, the lens does not come into contact with the iris and the cornea, thus avoiding the risk of tissue injury;
- The unique biological compatibility of the implantable lens with the human eye is ensured;
- Optical lens protects the retina from UV rays;
- Vision recovers within 2 to 3 hours after surgery;
- The integrity of the corneal structure is maintained.
The essence of the operation:
Vision correction with lens implantation is performed outpatient and lasts about 10 to 15 minutes. The effect is immediate and noticeable immediately after surgery. The result of refraction is comparable to ordinary contact lenses.
- Minimal incision is made in the cornea (3.0mm width). Only local anaesthesia is used in the operation, so it is not necessary to have a painful and relatively dangerous analgesic pot.
- Through this cut, an intraocular corrective PRL lens is inserted, which is easily set between the iris of the eye and the so-called lens back camera.
- Due to the small size of the cut, no seams are needed at the end of the operation.
- After surgery, the patient should use eye drops for 7 to 14 days.
